Available today from Sony’s RCA/Legacy label, the five-CD boxed set Young Man With The Big Beat features a ton of 1956 material. For die-hard fans, the crown jewel of the set is the first-ever release of Elvis’ December 15, 1956, concert that marked the singer’s final appearance on the Louisiana Hayride radio program.
Also released today is the Sony Legacy edition of his debut album, Elvis Presley, which is paired with his second album, Elvis.
Note that this set is also available for purchase in digital format (audio only) at a substantially reduced price for the full set.
UPDATE: Possibly along with others, Amazon US is offering the opportunity to buy individual tracks in digital format. This means fans who only want the Hayride material do not have to purchase the entire set. Thank you to Sony for this consideration.

A dazzling photo array of memorabilia will illustrate each day and entry. Concert ticket stubs, RCA memoranda, letters from fans, postcards from Elvis to his family, tour itineraries, magazine covers and articles, trade charts, fan club relics, RCA publicity photos, concert photos, candid photos, and more will be a feast for the eyes and the imagination as 1956 unfolds.
Other Items
Will also include five rare 8×10 photographs, five original-size poster replicas, and a replica concert ticket stub.
I’m waiting for mine to arrive. I got an email yesterday that the bonus 45 was not shipped with the box and will arrive separately.
I wonder if that’s across the board, disappointing, but at least I’ll have something new to listen to while I wait.

From what I’ve read on the For Elvis CD Collectors Forum, that was an across the board issue. I hope you enjoy the set!

that is nice, considering if you have the complete masters, the 2 discs of studio tracks are redundant.

Plus, half of the live CD was previously released on other boxed sets. The outtakes tracks were previously available, and even some or all of the interviews have surfaced before. Still, it is a nice concept to bring all of this together for such a focused examination of a single year.

Although I haven’t had a chance to listen to the music yet, I received my copy of the YOUNG MAN set yesterday and have to say that I am VERY impressed with the look of the set as well as the book and the bonus items included in the box. A VERY nice presentation and one that I think fans overall are very pleased with. Obviously, a box set of this magnitude has not been released on the main label in quite some time, so that in and of itself is worthy of high praise!!
Let’s just hope that there is enough interest in this set to warrant future box sets like this of other milestones in Elvis’ career!!
TCB!

Hey Mike, I hope you enjoy the set. Like you, I hope for future releases as well. A 1957 set would be quite welcome, especially if they can unearth a live show as a centerpiece. Outside of the Sullivan appearance, I can’t think of any live releases from that year, off the top of my head. (There’s probably some huge obvious example I’m forgetting.)
