Would the world of Christmas be as wonderful in January?

In addition to Promised Land, Follow That Dream is also releasing 1971’s Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas as part of its Classic Album series in December. That’s right, two of his best albums are being released as deluxe editions in the same month.

The 2-CD release will contain the original album, which made its debut 40 years ago this month, as well as a ton of merry outtakes, alternates, and studio banter. The only problem for those of us in the United States is that it usually takes two to three weeks after the release date for FTD’s CDs to arrive here, since they ship from Denmark.

If Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas is released in early December, Americans should have a decent chance of getting it before Christmas. If not, well . . . I, for one, plan to enjoy the wonderful world of Christmas in January, if necessary.

Also coming in December from FTD is The Elvis Is Back! Sessions on vinyl and a photo book covering 1956.

    • Thanks, Jenna, and welcome aboard the train. Your blog looks great!

Navigating the Elvis waters can be tough for new fans these days, but it’s worth it. In some ways, the rest of us envy you, though. You get to hear and see so many wonderful performances for the first time.

  1. Yeah, I was wondering about that, too. Even here in Europe it usually takes a couple of weeks after the release date before I receive my FTD albums, so like you, I’m prepared to celebrate Christmas in January. When I speculated about this release at the end of last year I thought it would get a release date in October, just as the original LP release had 40 years ago. In that way, a slight delay would’ve meant nothing when it comes to celebrating the wonderful world of Christmas with Elvis. http://www.elvistodayblog.com/2010/12/alternate-world-of-christmas.html No matter, I’m happy we’ll get the album and Promised Land as well. Great times to be an Elvis fan!

    • October would’ve made more sense, I agree. They could’ve swapped it with He Touched Me. Perhaps there was some production reason to do it in that sequence, though. No matter the release date, I agree these are great times.

      • Speaking of those little graphics, I can remember having this album in my hand at the store when I was a kid. I must’ve been eight or nine, at the oldest. I wanted my Mom to buy it, but she wouldn’t because she hated that cover – Elvis’ photo stuck in the Santa and snowman. I believe she thought it was making fun of him. Defending Elvis must run in my family….
